Each registered domain name has at least two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain to the servers of a particular hosting company. In this way, you have got both your site and your e-mails managed by the very same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, for instance A and MX. The former shows which server handles the website for a given domain name and is always an IP address (, while the latter shows which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, when you type a domain in your web browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be sent to the servers of another provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having different records for the site and the e-mails suggests that you can have your site and your emails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a Linux shared website hosting from us, you'll be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your domain names. Assuming that a specific domain name has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify particular records by using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or e-mails pointed to any other company if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool will allow you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address at all. If you decide to use the email services of another company and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with simply a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you are going to be able to view and change the A and MX records for each of the domain addresses or subdomains which you host in the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you will get to take care of the account, offers an advanced, though easy-to-use tool in which all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to edit their records with no more than a couple of mouse clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it's going to be equally simple - select the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you are going to be ready. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case you choose to use a third-party email provider and they ask you to set up additional records aside from the 2 standard ones. If you experience any problems, you will find a detailed Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to setup or modify any record.
